The Sacred Panch Badri Circuit

The Panch Badri constitutes a group of five highly revered Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. According to mythology, these temples mark the different forms and phases of Lord Vishnu's presence in the region, offering pilgrims deep spiritual cleansing and ultimate salvation.

Vishal Badri & Yogdhyan Badri

Vishal Badri (Badrinath) is the main and most famous temple among the five, seated along the banks of the Alaknanda river. Yogdhyan Badri, located at Pandukeshwar, is where King Pandu is believed to have meditated, and it serves as the winter abode for the Utsava Murti (festival deity) of Lord Badrinath.

Bhavishya, Vridh, and Adi Badri

Bhavishya Badri (accessible via a short scenic trek) is prophesied to be the future seat of Badrinath when the current route gets blocked. Vridh Badri at Animath is where Narada is said to have worshiped Lord Vishnu in the form of an old man. Adi Badri comprises a magnificent group of 16 ancient temples dating back to the Gupta period.

Frequently asked questions

The Panch Badri circuit includes Vishal Badri (the main Badrinath Temple), Yogdhyan Badri (at Pandukeshwar), Bhavishya Badri (at Subhai village), Vridh Badri (at Animath), and Adi Badri (near Karnaprayag).

The best time to visit is from May to June and September to November, aligning with the opening of the main Badrinath temple gates. July and August can be avoided due to heavy monsoon rains and potential landslides.

Four out of the five temples are easily accessible by road. However, reaching Bhavishya Badri involves a moderate trek of about 3 kilometers from the road head at Subhai village. Ponies can be hired locally for those unable to trek.

Yes, it is generally very suitable for elderly pilgrims as most of the travel is by car. We highly recommend arranging a pony or dandi at Subhai village for the 3 km trek to Bhavishya Badri to ensure their complete comfort.
