The Five Holy Confluences of Alaknanda
In Hindu mythology, the confluence of sacred rivers is known as a "Prayag". The Panch Prayag consists of five such highly revered confluences formed by the holy Alaknanda River and its tributaries as they descend from the glaciers of the Garhwal Himalayas. Pilgrims from all over India visit these sites to take holy dips, perform rituals, and seek spiritual purification.
Devprayag marks the exact spot where the emerald waters of Bhagirathi meet the muddy hues of Alaknanda to officially form the Holy Ganges. Moving upwards, Rudraprayag is the dramatic and beautiful confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, heavily associated with legends of Lord Shiva performing the Tandav.
Further up the valley, Karnaprayag unites the Alaknanda with the Pindar River, while Nandaprayag sees the gentle joining of the Nandakini River. Finally, nestled near the town of Joshimath is Vishnuprayag, the highest of the five, where the roaring Dhauliganga meets the Alaknanda in a narrow, breathtaking gorge.

Morning pick-up from Dehradun Railway Station/Airport. Begin your spiritual journey by driving towards Rishikesh and onward to Devprayag (the first Prayag). Stop to witness the holy confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers. Later, continue your drive to Rudraprayag (the second Prayag). Check in to the hotel, visit the local confluence and Koteshwar Mahadev temple if time permits. Dinner and overnight stay in Rudraprayag.
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive towards Joshimath. Enroute, stop at Karnaprayag (the third Prayag) where river Pindar joins Alaknanda. Continue your drive to halt at Nandaprayag (the fourth Prayag), the confluence of river Nandakini and Alaknanda. Proceed further to reach the sacred town of Joshimath. Check in to the hotel, enjoy a hot dinner, and rest for the night.
After an early breakfast, take a short excursion (approx 12 km) to Vishnuprayag (the fifth and final Prayag), where the forceful Dhauliganga meets Alaknanda. Seek blessings and return back to Joshimath to visit the revered Narsingh Temple (the winter seat of Lord Badrinath). Post lunch, commence your return journey downwards to Rudraprayag or Srinagar. Check-in to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Savor your final breakfast in the mountains before checking out of the hotel. Drive back down through the picturesque valleys toward Dehradun. Enroute, you can take a brief halt at Rishikesh for local sightseeing if time permits. Our driver will drop you at the Dehradun Railway Station or Airport in the evening for your onward journey home, concluding your divine Panch Prayag Yatra.
