Valley of Flowers - A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Nestled high in West Himalaya, the Valley of Flowers National Park is renowned for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and outstanding natural beauty. Sitting at an altitude of around 3,600 meters, this richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, musk deer, and blue sheep.

The Scenic Trek to Ghangaria

The adventure begins with an exhilarating trek from Govindghat (or Pulna village) up to Ghangaria, the base camp for this journey. Traversing alongside the gushing Pushpawati river and ascending through dense forests and cascading waterfalls, the 10-kilometer hike serves as a breathtaking prelude to the colorful valleys above.

Majestic Hemkund Sahib Pilgrimage

Situated at a staggering 4,329 meters, Sri Hemkund Sahib is one of the most revered Sikh shrines in the world. The serene, glacial Hemkund lake reflects the seven snow-capped peaks that surround it. The steep but spiritually rewarding trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib tests your endurance while granting unparalleled panoramic views.

After a hearty breakfast, take a short 4 km drive to Pulna village (the starting point of the trek). From here, start your 10 km trek up to Ghangaria alongside the Pushpawati River. The trail is paved and dotted with beautiful waterfalls. Arrive at Ghangaria (the base camp for the valley) by late afternoon. Check-in to your guesthouse and rest.

Start early after breakfast. Trek about 3-4 kms to enter the magical Valley of Flowers National Park. Spend the day admiring the countless species of vibrant alpine flowers, rare botanical herbs, and sweeping glacial vistas. Today features a steep but rewarding 6 km ascent to Sri Hemkund Sahib. Visit the magnificent star-shaped Gurudwara situated by the pristine glacial lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Take a holy dip if you wish, and have Langar. Descend back to Ghangaria by late afternoon for dinner and overnight rest.

After breakfast, bid farewell to Ghangaria and trek 10 kms downhill back to Pulna/Govindghat. Board your waiting vehicle and drive towards Rudraprayag (or Srinagar/Joshimath depending on time). Check-in to your hotel, relax your tired muscles, and enjoy a warm dinner.

Savor your final mountain breakfast before checking out. Drive back down through the scenic Garhwal valleys toward Haridwar. Enroute, visit Rishikesh (Ram Jhula/Laxman Jhula) if time permits.
